500 years ago the great plain in Freissinières was a lake. Today it is rather perfect to crosscountry ski. Tracks are made as soon as snow falls and leads you around the fields, crossing the river and along the larchtree forest on the northfaceside. All you have to do is to put your skis on in front of our restaurant and go!
We are not a ski resort but we have got more runs with natural snow than many. If you just have the time and the right equipment to put skins on your skis with touring bindings. If you don´t have your own, we have got it or we can rent it. Only quite recently the new generation of skis, the fat ones, made way into the untracked wilderness. They give its user a great pleasure walking up with lightweight, skis down with fat, stabile, well-performing ones. Peaks as Tête des Raisins, Dormillouse, Col de Vars etc are within easy reach from us. Needless to say that Freissinières is a well-known base camp for ski touring.
Freissinières is a popular base for our guide partners when they are out on roadtrips. They know where the best snow is to be found, normally not far from us. Mythic descents in areas like Pelvoux, Le Queyras, Crevoux or from Champsaur leading down to us from the Col de Freissinieres. Classic off-pist skiing or the more and more popular “free rando” where you save time and effort by using the ski lifts up before the final ascent. Whatever it takes to get good snow and first tracks!
